This incident was one of my very first concrete encounters with the paranormal. I was quite a novice then, and though I had the technical knowledge required to deal with such experiences, I did not have the emotional make-up for it. When I saw the ghost of Dolce Vas—and I become surer with each passing day that that was precisely what I saw—I did not know how to react. I did not know what to tell her so that she could find peace. It was a good thing that the spirit was kind and compassionate in life, and it retained those qualities in death.

Vas Villa does not exist now. A few years ago, the house was purchased by a builder and torn down. Nothing of the house remains any more. And no grave or anything of the sort was unearthed.

But the tragic story of Dolce Vas continues. She might be there on St Mark’s Road somewhere, walking in the silence of the night. At the very least, she is firmly etched in my mind, and I like to believe that it was she who made me more sensitive to the nature of all beings supernatural.
